Think Big Image: jupiterimages.com

More often than not, we wait for life to happen to us. We do not visualize what we want out of life. We do not think!

The mind works in mysterious ways. Scientists have, to this day, not been able to decipher the mysteries of the mind. But it is now a widely accepted fact that the mind plays a vital role in manifesting the reality that we perceive.

We usually do not want to get out of our comfort zones. The human mind can work wonders, only if we choose to get out of the comfort zone and take the required action. And that can only be possible when we exercise our will to do so. It is only possible when we think big thoughts and aim for the stars.

“Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think.”
- Benjamin Disraeli

It is said that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. But I can assure you that this is absolutely false. And I am saying this with the highest degree of conviction, because I have come up the hard way myself.

I lived my younger years amidst significant shortage of money. My dad could not save much money for rainy days, because the family could barely scrape through standard necessities of life with the amount that his job was fetching back then. But he refused to let the financial situation impact the upbringing of me and my siblings. He dared to dream big dreams for us. He used to tell us that we (his children) are his investments. I think that was a wonderful principle. He had a vision and he stuck by it.

Seeing the amount of trust and hope that he had placed in his children, there was no way we could let him down. We lived up to his dreams, and what we see in our family today can be attributed to the plan that my dad had dared to execute. Had it not been for his thoughts and intentions to get out of his comfort zone and go for that change, I would have probably been reliving those same moments that we used to back then.

My dad had come across the power of visualization and the power of positive thinking early on in his life, and I think he practiced those powers with a fair degree of success.

It is said that if you have been there in your mind clearly and without any doubt, you will be there in the body. You should ignore/overcome your perceived roadblocks, and dare to think big. Remember, you will rarely get any higher than what you aim for. So think bigger than what you would be simply satisfied with.

Like the old adage goes, “It’s better to aim for the stars and hit an eagle than it is to aim for an eagle and hit a rock.”

Think of accomplishing things that will blow you out of your mind if you were to accomplish them.

Think BIG, for you will not get any bigger than you think.
Or, will you?

  1. Hi Mark,
Great post! The power of our thoughts is incredible. That’s what The Secret is all about and the Laws of Attraction.
Thinking big, aiming high, visualizing success, positive affirmations, is what ‘positivity’ and success is all about.
If you haven’t read Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles, I highly recommend it. It’s all about this stuff.

  2. Hi Harriet,

True. The Secret, as depicted in the novel/movie, is the Law of Attraction. We get what we ask for (think about), accept, and feel grateful for.

The Success Principles book is on my ever-growing list, but now that you’ve mentioned it, I think I will prioritize it. It will also help me for the success laws/principles series that I am thinking of starting.

Thanks a lot for your contribution Harriet!

    Cheers,
    Mark

  3. Thinking Big is important. Developing goals and then devising a plan of how you are going to get from point A to point B is essential for success. :) Also, overcoming any fear of failure is important too.

  4. Hi Mary,

Yes, hand in hand with thinking big, we need to set related goals and set forth to achieve them. I’ve written about goal setting earlier, and I plan to discuss more in forthcoming posts.

Thanks a lot for dropping by and engaging!

    Cheers,
    Mark

  5. Hi Mark,
I have to agree that we need to get out of our comfort zones in order to achieve the life that we really want. Change is constant anyway so we might as well create some of our own.

  6. Hi Justin,

Well said! Since change always happens, we might as well create more of our own and take things in the direction that we initiate ourselves. Thinking big and getting out of our comfort zones to initiate those changes will surely create wonders.

    Cheers,
    Mark

  7. Great post. So many of us expect to realise our dreams without having to face any obstacles – what then happens is that we never even go after our dreams and we stay stuck.

    There’s a great quote by Walt Disney that’s rather fitting I feel;

‘If you can dream it, you can do it’. ~ Walt Disney

    Great post!

  8. Hi Kian,

    Welcome to Secrets of Success!

Well said! Most people would hope that there are absolutely no obstacles along the way. But roadblocks are a way of life and we still need to set out on the journey and continue on it despite the hurdles.

That’s a great quote indeed, and Walt Disney demonstrated it with what he did himself.

Thanks for coming by and adding value to the discussion. I look forward to seeing you around.

    Cheers,
    Mark

    Mark,

    Yup! Dream big= Win Big

this is surely possible you may not succeed as much as you hope for. But you never know. Small dreams are for small people. It is far better to overreach and try to capture the moon than to simply be happy in your ice cream and watching reruns of Family Guy, (nothing wrong with family guy BTW, I do like that show ;) )

  10. Hi Steve,

Thanks for dropping by. Well said! Small dreams are for small people. Unfortunately there are so many big people all around us who think that they are small enough to have only small dreams, and in that bargain never grow to their full potential. On the other hand, it’s interesting to also note that small people who have big dreams often outperform those who were in a much better position to begin with. Interesting point!

    Cheers,
    Mark
