What came to your mind when you read “Recreation”? Fun? Enjoyment? Well, in a sense, yes. However there is a deeper meaning that one should remember when it comes to recreation – one that is indicated in the very formation of the word, Re-creation.
We all get drained out as we try and keep up with the demands of our daily life. And the need for recreation cannot be overemphasized. You might be having fun every now and then, no doubt, but that might not count towards being true recreation. I say that because, although it might make you feel better in some way, it might not re-create you.
Re-creation, to me, means creating again, rebuilding what has been worn and torn through regular and/or extensive use. And in the context of this article, I am talking about our body, mind and spirit.
To me, true recreation consists of three entities:
• Relaxation of the Body
• Peace of Mind
• Rekindling of the Spirit
Activities that touch only one or two of these areas would leave you refreshed, but not completely recreated. There’s a subtle difference between the two, and it is important to make it a point to take out time for regular recreation in your life, else you would eventually come to a point where you cannot take it anymore and that would result in depression.
For an act to be a true recreation, it should refresh the body, the mind as well as the spirit. And when all these three are re-visited and re-aligned, you will able to take a fresh look at life, with a whole new perspective. You will have recreated yourself!
